Bill Thomasson, Chief Expedition Officer

My great, great, grandfather, Georg Ockershausen (“House of Ochre”) was a first generation immigrant. A sense of new place and new adventure was always part of the family heritage. Here at Ockershausen Outpost the same holds true.

Since childhood, I’ve been an avid collector of mineral specimens and enthusiastic treasure seeker. WAT Expeditions journeys to its four federal mining claims. Two near Lander, Wyoming (jade, white opal) one in Silverton, Colorado (gold) and the other by Bailey, Colorado (gold).

Now introducing art, jewelry, minerals, and creations from past expeditions and collections….

Carleen Johns

I consider myself an art jeweler, focusing my work on

one-of-a-kind silver and stone jewelry. I cut and polish most of the stone cabochons used in my work, getting my rough materials at rock shows and from small business miners, such at Bill Thomason of Iowa City, Iowa.

I usually let the stones direct me in my design process.

Stones that have lots of character usually get simple designs, and the solid color stones allow for more elaborate silver settings. I work with a large variety of stones, but my favorite stones are the ones which flash and sparkle, such as labradorite, opal, and druzy.

My jewelry adventure began in 2003 when I took a flameworking class and learned to make glass beads. I started attending jewelry workshops at William Holland School of Lapidary Arts in Young Harris, Georgia in 2007 and fell in love with silversmithing. I go back every summer for one to three weeks of instruction, and to enjoy the southern Appalachian Mountains.

My work is traditional in style, and I have recently started adding organic components that I make by casting actual flowers, leaves, twigs, and seed pods. My favorite pieces to make are large statement necklaces that feature multiple stones and handmade chains. I try to maintain an inventory with a variety of price points so that anyone can find something original and affordable.

In 2015, I retired from teaching art, and in 2019, I opened Pond Lily Studios in Brownwood, Missouri. That is where my jewelry studio is located. I also teach private and small group art lessons and jewelry classes. I sell my work at craft and art fairs in southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and the St. Louis Metro area.

Please follow me at Pond Lily Studios on Facebook and YouTube. I hope you enjoy my work.

John Pauli

Originally a farm boy from Wisconsin. Now a former shop teacher and engineer in Carroll, IA. I like to create and make things using the tools around me. Aways ready for a new challenge in creating something simple to inspiring.

Have enjoyed the prospecting trips to Wyoming to find the perfect rock whether Jade or Dendritic Opal to saw, grind, shape and polish into a piece of art.

So Enjoy The…..
